WARM for WINTER
~ A Homelessness Awareness Project
As a way to bring awareness to the very real, inexcusable fact that homelessness exists, Muslim sister Janice Tufe inspired individuals and communities from all faith traditions to begin hand sewing, crocheting and knitting hats and scarves for the homeless. This project began in 2006 and continues....
Janice has witnessed first hand how this small, simple, kind gift can be the difference between life and death for a person living on the streets.
Janice often delivers the handmade items to homeless shelters in the Seattle area herself, but this year she is welcoming each community to collect them within their community and hold a blessing of the scarves, then deliver them directly to the shelters.

WARM for WINTER October 2011 newsletter available HERE.

Handmade hats and scarves gifted to Warm for Winter were invited into the 2006 Praise & Thanksgiving Interfaith Celebration for a "Blessing of the Scarves" offered by clergy of many faith and spiritual traditions. The photo on this page preserves the occasion, held in the St. Patrick Church Sanctuary. (Janice is standing with Liturgical dancer Betsey Beckman and the youth of St. Pat's as she shares about homelessness.) Janice now inspires all communities to hold a blessing of the scarves and hats before delivery.
